System of a Down (also known as "SOAD" or simply "System") is a heavy metal band formed in Glendale, CA, in 1994. Blending aggressive riffs with experimental arrangements and touches of folk, punk, and alternative rock, they became a defining force in early-2000s metal. They released five studio albums, won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2006 and have sold over 40 million records worldwide.
